MasterCard has announced that Virgin Money has entered a long-term agreement to issue contactless-enabled MasterCard debit cards to the bank’s growing customer base.
According to MasterCard, it has developed a strong proposition and track record of working with challenger banks and new entrants to the banking sector to add to the choice and competition available to customers. The new agreement between MasterCard and Virgin Money builds upon an existing relationship, which commenced in 2010 for the issue of credit cards.
Mark Barnett, President of MasterCard UK & Ireland said: “We’re making it a priority to grow MasterCard’s debit business in the UK, so we’re hugely excited to be working with Virgin Money in this area. The Virgin brand is synonymous with innovation and disruption and that is strongly felt in their approach to banking.”
