Nintendo is leveraging the console’s built-in NFC capabilities to let customers make payments with various contactless cards, including Suica, Pasmo Kitaca, Toica, Manaca, Icoca.

Nintendo’s deal with the East Japan Railway Company allows users of the Suica smartcard to take advantage of a loyalty scheme, getting one Suica point for every 200 yen they spend at the eShop.

The eShop already allows users to add money to their account balance through a credit card or prepaid card before purchasing and downloading games, applications and videos to their console. Digital sales via the eShop have risen from two billion yen to over 16 billion yen in six years.
