Pre-COVID, over 40% of consumers surveyed used contactless payment daily or almost daily, most with a smartphone. Uses for contactless technology beyond payment – public transportation, digital identity, unlocking and starting vehicle, access control – are growing fast as the “contactless lifestyle” catches on.
A recent ABI Research global survey sponsored by the NFC Forum shows that contactless technologies like NFC are surging as consumers look for convenient and secure ways to pay, unlock and connect with the world around them.
The goal of the survey was to provide a greater understanding of consumer adoption, familiarity, and experiences with Near-Field Communication (NFC)/contactless technology at both a global and regional level.
