Google has enabled Send Money in Gmail, a money transfer payment service that will initially only be in the UK and the US.
Originally revealed several years ago in the US, the Send Money in Gmail payment service combines the Google Wallet with the standard Gmail email system. The Send Money in Gmail feature allows Gmail users to receive and send money within desktop Gmail — even if recipients do not have Gmail addresses.
Now, the service is being expanded and will be available for UK users within the next few weeks.
In order to send money in Gmail, you hover over the attachment paperclip, click the £ icon to ‘attach’ money to an email, enter the amount you wish to transfer and then send the email into cyberspace. You can also use the icon to request funds.
You’ll need to set up a Google Wallet account and link a debit card or bank account to your online wallet to use Send Money in Gmail. After that, funds received can be saved in your Wallet Ballance, spent in Google Play or other online stores which accept Google’s payment solution, or money can be transferred into your bank account.
The feature is being rolled out over the next few weeks to Gmail users in the UK who are 18 years old. Once the feature is active, you will be able to see a £ sign in the attachment options of an email.
