Digital currency processor GoCoin has announced a partnership with Apriva, a major payment processor, to enable bitcoin payments for more than 1,000 clients of Apriva. GoCoin is the first payment gateway solution designed from the ground up to support both bitcoin and emerging altcoins at checkout.
According to GoCoin, merchant acceptance is vital for the long-term growth of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. GoCoin is one of several prominent companies who hope to facilitate mass bitcoin acceptance among merchants. The company, whose clients include online retailers such as eGifter and BitcoinShop, processes bitcoin payments for a 1% fee.
“As the payments industry evolves, we want to empower merchants by giving their consumers the option to use the latest payment forms for their purchases,” said Steve Beauregard, founder and CEO of GoCoin. “Our partnership will enable Apriva’s resellers and ISVs to provide their merchants the most comprehensive selection of payment options offered today.”
One significant feature of the GoCoin-Apriva partnership is the opportunity it gives altcoin communities to purchase products using their coin of choice. Unlike other major bitcoin payment processors such as BitPay and Coinbase, GoCoin supports both Dogecoin and Litecoin payments. Consequently, the partnership will greatly expand not only bitcoin payment acceptance among merchants, but also the ability of leading altcoins to gain merchant acceptance.
