Rogers Communications, Canada’s largest provider of wireless voice and data services,
has chosen Sequent’s open Wallet Management Platform to power its suretap wallet, the first mobile wallet from a carrier in Canada which enables Near Field Communication (NFC) functionality for a wide spectrum of mobile applications.
“Sequent is delighted to work with Rogers to provide the technology platform that will deliver a secure and convenient mobile payments experience at thousands of Canadian retailers,” says Robb Duffield, CEO of Sequent. “By enabling banks and other card issuers to collaborate with merchants and developers, our Wallet Management Platform brings an ever-growing number of applications to millions of consumers.”
The wallet Platform will allow Rogers to enable application developers to quickly enable NFC payment transactions in retail, transit, ticketing, vending, access-control and other mobile applications. At the same time, banks and other card issuers can leverage the Sequent platform to provide secure access to digital card data to increase distribution and wallet share of their cards.
At launch, the customers who download the suretap Wallet will have access a co-branded virtual Rogers Prepaid MasterCard that can be loaded with additional features including gifting of gift cards, reloading of prepaid cards, the ability to check account balances, view recent transactions and use location services to find contactless payment terminals nearby.
In the near future, additional cards will become available for download including payment cards from multiple banks and payment networks and loyalty cards.
