MoneyGram has announced a new partnership with Airtel enabling Airtel Money’s 19 million customers to quickly and conveniently receive MoneyGram transfers directly into their mobile wallet from family and friends around the world.
Airtel also recently announced a financial inclusion partnership with Standard Chartered across Africa, a strategic collaboration to drive financial inclusion across key markets in Africa by providing customers with increased access to mobile financial services.
Through that collaboration, Standard Chartered and Airtel Africa will work together to co-create products aimed at enhancing the accessibility of financial services and, ultimately, better serve people across Africa.
In line with this, Airtel Money’s customers will be able to make real-time online deposits and withdrawals from Standard Chartered bank accounts, receive international money transfers directly to their wallets, and access savings products amongst other services.
With Monegram, Airtel Money customers receive the funds, which can be accessed immediately and used to pay utility bills, goods and services, transferred to other individuals, or converted to cash at any of Airtel Africa’s exclusive branches, kiosks and agents. The services will be enabled this year subject to local regulatory approvals.
“This partnership with Airtel will enable millions of consumers instant access to our global platform to receive money from over 200 countries & territories without having to even step outside,” says John Gely, Head of MoneyGram Africa. “We’re excited about how this customer-centric partnership with Airtel will expand our mobile wallet capabilities, build upon our strong momentum in Africa, and further accelerate our digital growth across the globe.”
