ALLIED Irish Bank customers can now send money securely by smartphone to anyone
with a mobile phone – P2P. The recipient does not have to bank with AIB but must have a euro personal visa card. All the user needs to know is the recipient’s mobile phone number.
Once registered for the service on AIB Internet Banking, users simply log into Me2U and select the recipient’s mobile number from their contacts list, key in the amount they wish to transfer and hit send – according to the Independent Ireland.
The money is then moved between the sender’s card and the recipient’s Visa card.
To promote the app, AIB has plastered bus shelters, cinema lobbies and phone kiosks around Ireland with sheets containing NFC tags. When an NFC-enabled phone is tapped to the tags, the user is taken to the Apple or Android app store from where they can download Me2U.
